No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an India-based NGO headquartered in Bengaluru. Our organisation strives to eliminate hunger by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in government schools and government-aided schools.
The Foundation aims at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education of socio-economically disadvantaged children through its Mid-Day Meal Programme.
We provide nutritious, wholesome mid-day meals at nearly 19000+ schools across India.
Our partnership with the Government of India and State Governments, in sync with corporate partners and individual donors have helped us grow from feeding 1,500 children in the year 2000 to 1.8 million children every school day in 2020*.
Today, Akshaya Patra is the world’s largest (not-for-profit run) Mid-Day Meal Programme serving wholesome meals to government school children from over 19,000 schools across 13 States & 1 Union Territory across India.
*1.8 million children were served every school day prior to the lockdown.

"The vision of Akshaya Patra Foundation “No child in India will be deprived of education because of hunger” is attributed to twin objectives: (1) Ending classroom hunger, by providing nutritious mid-day meals in government schools and government-aided schools and (2) Make basic education accessible, encourage more and more children to enrol in schools. A hot meal becomes an incentive for children to attend school and prevent dropouts. We feel honoured to call ourselves the world’s largest not-for-profit run mid-day meal programme, serving wholesome food every school day.”
